It began with a street play for Prince Charles in 2003. 14 street children came together to perform a play on homelessness, coached by local theatre artists and funded by ActionAid India. The play was such a success that it travelled India and abroad for 3 months. Through this time, the 14 children found confidence in themselves and became a family, so at the end of 3 months, they refused to return to the streets. Instead Amit found them a home and Jamghat, a lively gathering, was born!
Now Jamghat gives a home to 15 boys and a day care center to 50 street children around Jama Masjid. We continue using theatre to create awareness and to instill self confidence in the children.
